The Heart of Kindness BnB A consciously created home in the heart of Chiang Rai, Thailand

Welcome, beautiful soul.

If you are searching for more than just a place to sleep — if you are longing for stillness, nature, and a sense of coming home — you have found it.

The Heart of Kindness BnB is a small, soulful retreat nestled just 3 kilometres from downtown Chiang Rai, surrounded by greenery, mountain views, and just 600 metres from Nong Pueng — the largest and most serene lake in town.

We are not a hotel. We are a home. And we would love to welcome you.

A Home Born from the Heart

My name is Dee. For many years, I ran Kindness Cafe — a plant-based Thai restaurant in Darlinghurst, Sydney — where I met so many wonderful souls, many of whom became dear friends.

But deep inside, I always felt called to something more grounded. Something closer to the earth.

When the world paused during the pandemic, I returned to my birthplace, Chiang Rai — and something shifted in me. I found a piece of land, built a sustainable home, and in November 2024, my mom and I moved in.

I wake up grateful every single day.

If you value simplicity, sustainability, and genuine human connection — this home was made for you.

What Awaits You Here

Imagine waking up gently, with no rush. You step outside into the garden, breathing in the fresh morning air — mountains resting quietly in the distance.

Your day might begin with:

  • A quiet meditation or gentle yoga on the wooden balcony or in the garden, with mountain views to ground you
  • A peaceful walk or bike ride around Nong Pueng lake, just 600 metres away
  • A refreshing swim at the shaded Olympic-size public pool, only 150 metres from your door
  • A simple breakfast made with fresh vegetables from our homegrown garden

This is not just a stay. It is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with what truly matters.

A Note on Seasons

Chiang Rai is beautiful year-round. However, from March to mid-May, smoke from agricultural burning in neighbouring regions affects air quality across northern Thailand — something we believe you deserve to know before you book.

During this time, we keep all rooms equipped with air purifiers, and morning practices move gently indoors. The rest of the year, the air is remarkably fresh, the skies are clear, and the mountains are at their most breathtaking.

The Rice Granary — A Piece of Living History

This is a tiny home unlike any other.

Our beloved Rice Granary is an 80-year-old teak wood structure, carefully rescued and relocated from a local village in Chiang Rai. In the days before modern preservation, rice farmers relied on these small wooden buildings to store their harvests — making a structure in her condition a rare and precious find.

She has been lovingly redesigned by Chiang Rai architect Worodom Wongsai, honouring her original size and character, and now offers a fully private space with an open-air shower, bathroom, small kitchen, and a dining and sitting area — all with mountain and garden views.

Every detail — from the building materials to the toiletries we provide — has been chosen with sustainability and mindfulness at heart. All furniture is crafted by local wood and bamboo makers.

Staying in the Rice Granary is not just a night's rest. It is a chance to sleep inside a piece of Chiang Rai's living history — surrounded by nature, in a space filled with intention and care.

The Mountain Room

Step inside and the mountains are already with you.

The Mountain Room is a private retreat on the ground floor of our family home, with its own entrance, a fully private bathroom, and direct access to the garden. It is a space that feels both sheltered and open — held within a lived-in, loving home, yet entirely your own.

The room's defining feature is a stunning mural — a mountain silhouette hand-painted by young Chiang Rai artist Thanakorn Saelee. Wake up to it on the wall, then look out to the real mountains waiting quietly beyond the garden.

Guests are welcome to enjoy our small library, help themselves to all-day plant-based Thai snacks, and relax at the shared sitting and dining area upstairs — as well as a simple self-service breakfast to start the day. As with everything at The Heart of Kindness, all toiletries are chosen with minimal chemicals and sustainability in mind.
